The Square Wheels® PowerPoint Toolkit on Managing and Leading Change is Sub-titled, "Teaching the Caterpillar to
Fly," and this toolkit
- Creates a memorable and engaging look at the inevitability of the change process.
- Contains a wealth of ideas with over 200 slides (consisting of factoids, one-liners, quotes, illustrations, worksheets
and various exercises).
- Includes the speaking notes of Dr. Scott Simmerman, the creator of the Square Wheels® illustration series.
- Creates interactive discussions focusing on how things need to work to become optimized and is intended to generate
ownership and build teamwork for change.

You can use it as a major program for a 90-minute, half or full day workshop, conference or training event. A unique
and profound presentation that receives high accolades from users!
This program originally evolved from presentations that Scott Simmerman, creator of the Square Wheels® illustration
series for organizational development, delivered to the US Census Bureau and to the US Senate Staff in the spring of
2004 and from a series of one-day workshops on facilitation skills. Portions of this program were also the focus of a
presentation for the International Association of Facilitator's Conference in Scottsdale, AZ in June 2004. Since then,
in the spirit of continuous continuous improvement, Scott has continued to update and add to these materials.

SOne key part of this program is Scott's insightful metaphor of the caterpillar and butterfly or "Teaching the
Caterpillar to Fly." This framework creates an easy to understand, engaging look at the inevitability of the change
process. It links to some crucial learning points on leading change including what we describe as "dis-unempowering"
people as well as some important lessons on perspective, leadership and creativity.
The illustration below, entitled, "Nobody Ever Washes a Rental Car," demonstrates the resistance that occurs if people
don't feel a sense of ownership to a process. Push on someone's hand and they will naturally push back as resistance is
a reflex for most people who feel pushed. You'll feel much happier taking a soapy sponge and washing your own car than
being handed a soapy sponge with the expectation that you'll happily wash a rental car!
Shown at the left of this page are some examples of the diversity of slides included in this toolkit. In addition to the
PowerPoint presentation and notes that accompany it, you'll also receive a wide range of supporting materials. There are
worksheets that can be used by participants, some files that cover general facilitation skills, facilitation tips and
tools and other things. Basically, you're getting a Big Bundle of possibilities that are modifiable to your specific
needs.
