A short video overview of The Search for The Lost Dutchman’s Gold Mine

Here is a short video oveview of The Search for The Lost Dutchman’s Gold Mine.

Dutchman is a powerful teambuilding game focused on engagement, collaboration and teamwork. It is a world-class exercise and we know of no other design that can frame the issues of collaboration over competition to optimize workplace improvement.

The game is about optimizing overall results, not having the common structure of one team winning (and all the others losing). The goal is, “To mine as much Gold as WE can” and to maximize return on investment. The role of The Expedition Leader is, “To help teams be successful.”

Note that these are very uncommon among the vast majority of exercises in the team building and leadership development marketplace. Most are unfortunately designed to create losing teams and to NOT focus on he overall results obtained through play.

Dutchman does NOT focus on one team winning — it focuses on the game facilitator being supportive to helping teams maximize overall results of all the teams.

The game is designed for debriefing and generating ideas for implementing workplace improvement. It comes with extensive debriefing materials. Click on the icon for a 3-minute overview of key game features.

The video is narrated by Jeff Simmerman, who first helped his dad deliver the game at age 13. Jeff knows the game really well and is the developer of the virtual, online version of the exercise.

I want to thank the hundreds of thousands of peoople who have played the game since we first started back in 1993 and our hundreds of game purchasers who have worked with us to help change the nature of teamwork im global workplaces.

Collaboration is a key ingredient of innovation and engagement; competition seems to keep driving the issues of un-engagement of many people in most workplaces.
